The McKenzie Lake Plan (or Stewardship Plan) Vision and Values
2.1.1 McKLPOA recognizes that if every person in the McKLPOA community acts as a steward, our lake and watershed treasure can be preserved and maintained.
As stewards we will act conscientiously to promote:
- Heathy water quality;
- Rich fish and wildlife habitats;
- Responsible recreational enjoyment;
- Environmentally sustainable development and property maintenance;
- A friendly and open attitude towards neighbours and community; and
- Peaceful enjoyment of the lake and area for each resident maintained for present and future generations.
VISION
2.1.2 A vision statement provides guidance for what the lake should be and look like in the future. It describes a common objective that is important to all community members. The following Vision Statement reflects the values and vision that McKLPOA members share.
The McKenzie Lake area has a rich cultural indigenous heritage and is a place where water quality, wildlife, habitat, natural beauty, recreational opportunities, and peaceful tranquility are conserved and improved in perpetuity for all human and wildlife generations to come.
PRINCIPLES
2.1.3 The Environmental Committee confirmed through surveys and member discussions a series of commonly repeating principles which identified several focal points to be addressed:
Protect Lake Character
The natural, social, physical and historic character of the lake must be protected, enhanced and rehabilitated.
Focus Plan on Long Term End Results
The plan will focus on end results and invest in a balance of means to achieve those results which can include but not limited to eduction, communication and potentially regulation.
Implementation Approach
Implementation will favour educational processes and voluntary compliance over legislative and regulatory constraints.
